ABSTRACT
One of the energy functions is confirmed in the report provided by United
Nations related to itsfunction as a major agent of change for social and economic
development. Therefore, poor energy supply process can be very critical
for social and economic sustainability. The purpose of this study was to
understanding the availability and consumption pattern ofenergy carrier as
an input on small-scale dairy milk enterprises in the village of Tarumajaya, also
to identify about the potential impacts caused by its availability and consumption
to the environment. Data were analyzed using dominant qualitative less dominant
quantitative approach. The results showed that the use ofenergy carriers was
available in two phases offresh milk production, which ,vere in the maintenance
phase and milking phase. Respondents who used energy carrier at milking phase
is higher (82.61%) than respondents who used energy carrier at maintenance
phase (17.39%), and only 13 respondents (14,13%) used energy carrier at both
phases. There were six types of energy carrier used by dairy farmers in small
scale dairy milk industry i.e.: diesel, petrol, bensol, firewood, kerosene,
and LPG with various number andfrequency of used. Barriers experienced in
acquiring energy carrier related to the availability, access, affordability and
acceptability of energy carrier were identified. The potential impacts, both
negative and positive were categorized into three aspects: economical (productive
use of energy), ecological, and social aspects. All value of RlC ratio in energy
carrier used were above 1 which indicated that productive use of energy was
proven to deliver efficiency in milk production of small-scale dairy milk
enterprises. Potential impacts on ecological aspects were identified regarding
forest and C02 emission. Meanwhile social impacts that identified were about
potential dairy farmer's welfare and potential infected by respiratory desease
because 0./C02 emission.
