  • In this book, the author argue that the history of the minor tranquilizers is a good example of what sociologist call "cultural lag", which occurs when technological advances outstrip the ability of society to adapt to and to utilize these advances. The Author will suggest that this phenomenon contributes to a therapeutic life cycle for new drug types and will explore some of the social and medical determinants of both the lag and the cycle for the minor tranquilizers.
