  • Work is an economic activity that is needed by most people to find income to
meet their financial needs or others. The economic crisis caused by the Covid-19
pandemic has caused many workers in Indonesia to lose their jobs and/or
experience salary cuts, especially in directly affected industries by the Covid-19
pandemic such as the tourism and travel industries. Such conditions experienced
by the industry affected by Covid-19 pandemic can increase the level of job
insecurity for its employees and have a negative impact on individuals and the
companies. This study aims to see an overview of the level of job insecurity for
Travel Bureau X’s employees, as one of the directly affected industries by the
Covid-19 pandemic. The measuring instrument used in this research is De Witte's
Job Insecurity Questionnaire (2000) which has been adapted by the researcher and
has good reliability (α=0.851) and meets the validity criteria. This study used
simple random sampling and involved 85 respondents.
The results of this study found that the average employee of Travel Bureau X
has a low level of job insecurity, but there were 24.71% of them have high job
insecurity and 4.71% of employees have very high job insecurity. In addition, there
are 5 out of 8 consequences that are felt to be experienced by more than 25% of
employees, namely decreased performance, sleep disturbances, the emergence of
intention to leave the current company, difficulty in putting maximum work effort,
and feeling dissatisfied with the current job. Based on the individual
characteristics, there were no significant differences and relationships were found.
Although, differences in job insecurity were found based on generation, marital
status, level of position, duration of employment, and previous layoff experience.
