  • Bank Bjb Syariah is the only one sharia bank that was established from
    Region Development Bank of West Java in Indonesia namely Bank Bjb, thus West
    Java Province especially the city of Bandung has been its priority market
    coverage. The great economy development of the city of Bandung creates the
    industry growing very rapidly which inevitably becomes a threat for Bank Bjb
    Syariah Bandung Area Office Branches. The decreasing performance for
    consecutively three years at office brances has drawn more attention from the
    management party. The real benchmark of the bank performance is seen from the
    target achievement at work units, therefore the operational employees' existence
    such as marketing become very significant especially the Account Officer (A 0).
    The rapid competition gets AO feeling less able to dominate the market; this
    matter affects the inability to reach target at work units. AO who have lack of
    belief towards their knowledge and skills needed in conducting their job are
    called psychological empowerment. The less conviction towards self-ability will
    also determine weak encouragement in achieving goals that appear as work
    motivation.

    This study is aimed at identifying how the influence of psychological
    empowerment towards work motivation of AO at Bank Bjb Syariah Bandung Area
    Office Branches. The data collected by using questionnaire of psychological
    empowerment scale (Spreitzer, 1995) and work motivation referring to goal
    setting theory (Locke, 1997). This research was administered to 63 AO through
    total sampling technique. The hypothesis testing was conducted through Linear
    Regression technique and the assistance of Structure Equation Model-Partial
    Least Square (SEM-PLS) to elaborate process of work motivation.

    The study found that there is a significant influence of psychological
    empowerment towards work motivation which is shown by the more AO who
    possess low psychological empowerment. This finding reveals that more AO have
    lack of belief towards their knowledge and skills needed in performing their job.
    This lack of belief of knowledge and skills also gives influences towards weak self­
    encouragement to show high performances in achieving target.

    In order to increase work motivation through psychological empowerment
    for AO, it is very essential to do follow-up interventions. The two programs are
    workshop for management party and training for AD. The interventions are
    designed by the foundation on problem identifications.
