The contents of this book has been divided in two parts. Part I of this book concentrates on explaining the HIV-AIDS in total seven chapters. Part I starts with the historical development and brief chronology of HIV-AIDS research. Two chapters have been devoted to HIV explaining its morphology, life cycle and functions of structural components. Immune response to HIV infection is discussed in details in a separate chapter. Clinical spectrum and pathogenesis is overviwed separately. Treatment and management of HIV-AIDS is covered systematically emphasizing the Anti-retroviral Therapi and other drugs in use. Detailed coverage is given to the vaccines research on HIV highlighting limitations in the development of conventional and novel vaccine design. Part II concentrates on the review of bioactive natural products which is divided in ten chapters. Part II starts with the role of natural products in treatment and management of ADIS and emphasizes the mission statement. An on going chapter reviews proteins, alkaloids, polysaccharides, tannins, flavonoids, lignans, coumarins and terpenoids by presenting the information as per the modern chemical classification of natural products. Bioactivity of natural product is systematically explained against the specific HIV enzyme or its structural components and the information is also provided in tabulated form for quick reference. Last chapter has been devoted to the herbal drugs and their formulations used in various parts of the world in various forms from anti-HIV agents, immunomodulators to that of neutraceuticals. Most chapters have brief summaries. Abaout 900 references have been cited in the bibliography which is provided at the end of each chapter. -
