  • Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder that associated with mental retardation and physical growth delays including tooth development. The aim of this research is to describe the delayed eruption of primary teeth among children with Down Syndrome in POTADS (Persatuan Orang Tua Anak Down Syndrome). ..The research was descriptive analytic research. The population of this research was Down Syndrome children age between 6 48 months who registered in POTADS Bandung branch and normal children who visited RSGM (Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut) as control subjects. There were 25 Down Syndrome and 40 normal subjects, selected by purposive sampling technique. Primary teeth eruption was measured by the number of primary teeth present in the mouth, from white spot until fully erupted in the mouth.
The research results from this study showed the number of erupted primary teeth was lesser in Down Syndrome children than normal children, the mean number of erupted primary teeth in Down Syndrome children is 9 while for normal children is 13.275, meaning that there was significant delayed eruption of primary teeth among Down Syndrome children compared to normal children (p < 0.05).
The conclusion of this research; the eruption of primary teeth among children with Down Syndrome shows significant delay when compared to normal children.
