  • This study investigated age estimation and its relationship to the sinus maxillary area in deuteromalay population. The aim of this study was to introduce auxiliary method in human identification under forensic anthropology.
The design of this study was an analytical study conducted on deuteromalay sub race population with samples of 68 lateral head cephalograms from the Radiology Installation of Dentomaxillofacial, Universitas Padjadjaran Dental Hospital, Bandung, Indonesia (age from 8 to 50 years) were measured. In relation of the application, regression formulae were derived to estimate age with maxillary sinus measurement for the deuteromalay population. According to a previous study conducted by Bharat Bhusan et. al. (2016), maxillary sinus height has a steady growth from birth to age of 18 years.
The result of this research, the linear regression equation was obtained for male AGE = 0.031x (maxillary sinus area) 18.578 and for female AGE = 0.051x (maxillary sinus area) 33.781. The coefficient of determination R^2 for male was 85.5% and for female was 91.3%. While the combine regression equation for male and female is AGE = 0.031x (maxillary sinus area) 14.207 with R^2 = 61.9%.
The conclusion of this study shows that the area of maxillary sinus on cephalometric radiograph can affect age radioidentification by generating a formula y(age) = 0.031 x(maxillary sinus area) 14.207 , R² = 61.9%
