  • Introduction:Pawon Man are referring to the skeletal findings found in the Pawon Cave, Mount Masigit, Cipatat District,Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Age estimation is a sub-discipline of forensic sciences and one of the important parameter to be identified for biological profile of prehistoric man in the scope of Forensic Archaeology. Age estimation based on pulp cavity volume of first molars are based on the theory that the apposition of secondary dentin during human life could be an age indicator. The study use CBCT radiograph and ITK-SNAP software to carry out measurement. The aim of this study was to estimate age based on pulp chamber volume of first molars of Pawon Man teeth.
Methods: The research is a descriptive study. Slices (axial, coronal, sagittal views) of CBCT radiograph of first molars of skeletal findings of Pawon I (teeth 26 and 36), Pawon III (teeth 36) and Pawon V (Teeth 36 and 46) were collected from Radiology Installation database in RumahSakit Gigi danMulut
Results: The chronological age for Pawon I is 32.64362 for teeth 36 and 33.67608 years old for teeth 26, Pawon III is 62.09522 years old for teeth 36 and Pawon V is 21.57729 for teeth 36 and 23.55737 years old for teeth 46.
Conclusion: The chronological age for Pawon I is in the acceptable range, whereas in Pawon III, there were overestimation of age that can be explained by the theory of deposition of tertiary dentin due to attrition experienced by the teeth and slight underestimation of age of Pawon V.
