Introduction: Parental perception is the key to developing dental programs and intervention regarding the care of autistic patients. However, the parental perception about oral health of autistic children has been little-considered worldwide and there are no national data publications. Therefore the aim of this study was to gather information about the parents� perception on the oral health of the autistic children.
Method: The research methodology used was descriptive method. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire consisting of 23 multiple-choice question. The subjects were 30 autistic children�s parents from Hasanah Autism Centre (Rumah Autis), EDUfa Autism Therapy Centre and Yayasan Cinta Autisma.
Result: Majority of the population (66.67%) had received dental care one year ago. Generally, there was a good perception of the care provided, but the monetary cost is considered expensive for 17 (56.67%) of the subjects. All the parents think that it is important to implement dental health programs for children with special needs and the dental care in Indonesia still need to be improved.
Conclusion: Majority of the parents of autistic children in Bandung region have good perception on their children�s oral health. -
