Introduction: Dry socket is one of the possible complications of post-extraction of teeth that can be caused by surgical trauma, smoking, oral contraceptives and local anesthetic containing vasoconstrictor that leads to post-operative pain inside and around the extraction site. The aim of this research is to know the correlation between local anaesthesia containing vasoconstrictor and dry socket occurrence in post-extraction of teeth. Methods: This study uses the method of literature review with systematic approach by reviewing articles that discuss about the correlation between local anesthetic containing vasoconstrictors and dry socket occurrence post-extraction of teeth. Results: The results of this study were 2 journals found that shows dry socket incidence in different types of vasoconstrictors such as epinephrine and adrenaline. Discussion: Based on the results due to the fact that both journals used descriptive study in their research, it is difficult to find out the correlation between local anesthetic containing vasoconstrictor with dry socket occurrence and local anaesthesia containing vasoconstrictor do have an effect towards dry socket occurrence. It can cause temporary local ischemia which increases the risk of developing dry socket Conclusion: Based on the research that has been made, it can be conclude that it can be seen that vasoconstrictor can affect the occurrence of dry socket. However, the incidence is in a small percentage which indicates it is still safe to use local anaesthesia containing vasoconstrictor in tooth extraction treatment. -
