  • Cheiloscopy is known as the study of lip print which is used to recognized human identity based on their lip print pattern. It is an alternative and supporting method used in crime investigations, mass disaster, and biometric purposes. Lip print is unique and stable for every individual. The research identification of lip print pattern among Sundanese dental students has not been done yet. Therefore, the study aims to identify the predominant lip print pattern on Sundanese co-assistant dental students of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran by using the digital method.
The research is descriptive. A total of 75 samples was chosen using a purposive sampling method. Samples were photographed using a DSLR camera from a 0.5-m distance. The photographs were then analyzed using ImageJ 2.0 version software to identify the lip print pattern located in quadrant 1-8 based on Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification.
Based on this research, the results show that the most common type of lip print found on Sundanese dental students is type II( 57.10%) in female, followed by type I (18.60%), and type I (14.30%). However, male samples were dominated by the type I (60%), followed by type II (40%) and the least type is type IV (1.40%).
In conclusion, the most common type of lip print among the Sundanese dental students of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran in female dental students is type II and Type I in male students.
