  • Introduction: Zirconia is a promising material for becoming an alternative to be used as Fixed
    Partial Denture (FPD) because of its superior optic, biologic, and mechanic properties. However,
    there are many complications and failures that occur in the use of zirconia long-span FPD (>3
    units). This study's purpose is to analyse the type of complication and failure in the use of zirconia
    long-span fixed partial denture and clinical recommendations to prevent it happens. Methods and
    Material: This study used the rapid review method and refer to Preferred Reporting Items for
    Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) analysis with PubMed and Cochrane
    database. Results: From a total of 851 articles, 11 full-text articles were included in the final
    review. Complications and failures in zirconia long-span FPD were found in the form of chipping
    of the veneer, surface roughening, framework fracture, decementation, debonding, fracture of
    abutment teeth, endodontic problems, and secondary caries. Conclusions: The most common
    complications and failures in zirconia long-span FPD are due to mechanical problems and can be
    prevented by careful attention and consideration of the material, FPD design, manufacturing
    process, and oral condition of the patient.
